2007 SEMINARS
Even though he was only back in Canada for a week our coach Wagnney Fabiano made the drive to Kingston on November 24th to teach a special BJJ class to MAP students. It was nice to have some experienced students and brand new beginners training together. Part way through the class Professor Fabiano stopped the training to make two special presentations. Rebecca Sweeney received her BJJ Brown Belt from Wagnney while Mike Sweeney was promoted to BJJ Black Belt.
Just over 20 students and friends were in the gym Oct. 20 to participate in a 2-hour clinic taught by MAP coaches Mike and Rebecca Sweeney. The clinic covered in detail how to complete a thorough, athletic warm up, exercises to reduce common sports injuries, various forms of flexibility training and post-workout exercises to aide recovery.
MAP students were fortunate to have our coach Wagnney Fabiano visit our school to teach 2 special classes on July 23/24. Undefeated in the IFL, Wagnney's wrestling is "off the hook." Great classes -- great guy!
As expected the June 16-17 MMA seminar with SBGi instructor Karl Tanswell was a total blast. Karl shared much of the MMA curriculum that he drills with his own students and fighters, a large portion of it being very unique and of course effective. Thanks to Karl for making the long trip from Manchester!
It's hard to imagine that every SBGi seminar can bring so much new material to the table but they continue to do so. When Matt Thornton visited MAP on April 21-22, 2007, he shared numerous cutting-edge skills and training methods that are sure to elevate every seminar participant's game. Also on hand for the seminar was surprise guest Travis Davison, another coach from the Portland, OR. SBGi main branch. He too shared numerous skills and fundamentals that were eagerly received by the group. Thanks go to both Matt and Travis for the fun times we had during your visit!
On January 16th, just two weeks into 2007, Martial Arts Planet has already hosted a special clinic with one of the top Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitors in the World. Leonardo Santos visited MAP to train with Mike and Rebecca, and to share his skills with a group of enthusiastic students. The entire clinic focused on his high-percentage half guard game, and everyone in attendance walked away with an abundance of skills to train. Thanks to Leo for the incredible training.
