We were pleased to host another great Brazilian
Jiu-jitsu workshop with our teacher Wagnney
Fabiano on December 17, 2005. As Wagnney was traveling
to Kingston to attend our year-end party, we were happy to be able to "talk
him into" sharing some of his skills. The seminar began with high-percentage
takedowns and then progressed to working from half guard. As usual,
the workshop was a blast. Thanks for your ongoing support Professor.

Some described the September 24/25 seminar
with Matt
Thornton as "the best they had ever attended."
Everyone in attendance would certainly agree that it was
an incredible training opportunity. With a focus on Brazilian
Jiu-jitsu and stand-up wrestling, the two-day seminar, part
of our Superfest Weekend, was very physical. Many thanks
to Matt for his ongoing support, excellent coaching and
friendship!

On Friday, July 15, 2005 a small group of
students had the special opportunity to train with World-Champion
fighter and trainer Erik
Paulson. As it was just a small group Erik had the opportunity
to spend much of the seminar on "ring craft" and
sparring drills. After beginning the seminar with a striking
session, which focused on combinations he drills his professional
fighters with during each workout, we moved to the ring
to train takedowns off the ropes. Multiple rounds of sparring
followed, leaving everyone sufficiently tired at the end.
Thanks for all of your support Erik!

It's not very often that one gets the opportunity
to train with two world-champions in the same day. It is
an even rarer experience to have those two champs be incredibly
giving instructors. This however is exactly what our students
got to experience when our BJJ teacher Wagnney
Fabiano and his brother Leo Santos
visited our school on Saturday, May 7, 2005.

The two taught a 4-hour seminar focused on
the submission wrestling skills that they have been training
for their fights in the Abu Dhabi World Championships later
this month. It also included an extensive Q&A portion
where students were encouraged ask for help on their grappling
challenges. What was very cool was to have these two instructors
share their own personal solutions for those situations,
which is many cases, gave several different answers to experiment
with. Both Leo and Wagnney leave for Brazil on the 8th for
their final preparation for the championships. We will be
cheering for both of them to bring home the gold in their
respective divisions. Go Nova
Uniao!

Did Wagnney meet his match?
As promised, it was another great seminar
by world-champion fighter and trainer Erik Paulson.
Sensei Paulson visited our school on Friday January 14th
as part of a 6-day Canadian tour. The 3-hour workshop focused
on both orthodox and un-orthodox striking skills, striking
and takedowns from the clinch and various submission grappling
techniques. The workshop, which was attended by 22 of our
students as well as several out-of-town guests, left everyone
sweaty and smiling. Thanks again Mr. Paulson -- you are
the best!
