SEMINARS ARCHIVE:

Read some quotes from guests who attended some of our previous seminars:

"The Sweeneys' Gym is one of the nicest facilities I have ever been to. And it is certainly the nicest facility I have visited which teaches an Alive and functional program... so that is very cool to see.
As usual everyone was really nice and the entire group of people at the seminar was a pleasure to be around." Matt T.

"Martial Arts Planet is one of the nicest facilities that I have ever been to. It has a great atmosphere and no egos. Mike Sweeney is a knowledgeable instructor in a number of martial arts. He is constantly expanding his knowledge and giving back to the martial arts community by bringing down the absolute best people in the world to train and teach seminars." PJ

SEMINARS 2004

After some "fun" airplane challenges, we were finally able to get Marc Laimon to Kingston for a special 2-day seminar on November 27-28, 2004. Marc traveled here from Las Vegas where he owns and runs a very successful martial arts school called Cobra-Kai Jiu-jitsu. The seminar participants were treated to a huge amount of high-percentage skills which Marc says he uses on a daily basis in training and in competition. Marc definitely lived up to our high expectations and if the plane journey didn't scare him too much, maybe we will be able to see him back here another day. Thanks Marc!

Huge thanks goes out to Jeff Joslin and Vito Brancaccio for the great instruction they presented at our October 2-3 Superfest Weekend. Just over 20 students from Kingston and Ottawa were on hand to learn from these two Canadian Coaches. Shihan Brancaccio, who owns All Canadian Martial Arts in Mississauga, presented boxing skills with an emphasis on using evasion to create angles and/or close distance with your opponent. Sensei Joslin, of Joslin's Martial Arts in Hamilton, taught no-gi submission wrestling. He covered how to set-up and counter single-leg takedowns as well as guard passing and half-guard bottom attacks. From the smiles on the faces of the participants, it is obvious that these two instructors are experienced trainers. We are very happy to have had them visit our school!

On Wednesday, June 2, 2004, fresh off his Mixed Martial Arts win at TKO, Professor Wagnney Fabiano visited our school to teach a 3-hour BJJ clinic. The workshop began with instruction in guard passing skills and then progressed to a Q&A session where students were encourage to ask both technical and training-related questions. As is typical, the seminar progressed to some friendly wrestling, and a few students got the opportunity to "roll" with Wagnney. At the conclusion of seminar, several of our students received promotions to new ranks. As always, Wagnney was extremely humble, and is an excellent role model for BJJ students to follow. Muito Obrigado!

"I am not a martial arts coach, I am an aliveness coach" is the quote Matt Thornton ended his March 6-7 two-day seminar with. This was, of course, after spending the weekend drilling seminar participants in round after round of functional training in standup, grappling and stick fighting. On day 1 of the seminar Matt took the group through his entire SMAC (Stickfighting: Methods And Counters) curriculum as well as introduced students to Karl Tanswell's knife defense program. Day 2 two included instruction in the Crazy Monkey boxing method and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu ground skills. Students from ages 10 to 50+ participated in the seminar and judging by the smiles at the end of the day, everyone felt that it was time well invested! We are eagerly looking forward to our next training opportunity with Matt!
