Read some quotes from guests who attended
some of our previous seminars:
"The Sweeneys' Gym is one of the nicest facilities I
have ever been to. And it is certainly the nicest facility
I have visited which teaches an Alive and functional program...
so that is very cool to see.
As usual everyone was really nice and the entire group of
people at the seminar was a pleasure to be around." Matt
T.
"Martial Arts Planet is one of the nicest facilities
that I have ever been to. It has a great atmosphere and no
egos. Mike Sweeney is a knowledgeable instructor in a number
of martial arts. He is constantly expanding his knowledge
and giving back to the martial arts community by bringing
down the absolute best people in the world to train and teach
seminars." PJ

SEMINARS 2003
With the Christmas holidays less than two weeks
away, grappling enthusiasts spent the December 13-14 (2003)
weekend studying jiu-jitsu instead of fighting in the shopping
malls. BJJ Black Belt World Champion Leonardo Santos
taught an incredible two-day seminar at our school sharing
skills which have made him one of the best in the world in
his weight class. Thanks to Professor Santos for the great
training opportunity.

Eddie "Twister" Bravo
had his group of seminar participants all "twisted up"
after two days of intensive drilling in his no-gi jiu-jitsu
style. Enthusiastic students from Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa,
Montreal and of course, Kingston were at our school on Nov.
15 & 16, 2003, eagerly soaking up all that Eddie could
throw at them. Eddie is now on my list of martial artists
who not only do well in competition (as proven by his ADCC
win over Royler Gracie) but can also effectively teach their
skills to a group of students! Thanks so much Eddie.

Once again (and not surprisingly to those who
know him), Sensei Erik Paulson blew everyone
away with the quality and quantity of information he shared
at his workshop on July 7, 2003. The workshop covered everything
from striking and takedowns off the clinch, chicken-wing submissions
and counters to secrets of "ground-and-pound." Those
who took advantage of the seminar definitely walked away better
because of it.

Students, staff and guests had the great opportunity
to study Boxe Francaise - Savate under the watchful eye of
Professor Salem Assli. The 3 hour workshop,
which focused on the sportive aspects of Boxe Francaise, left
seminar participants sweaty and smiling. Our warmest thanks
goes out to Professor Assli. We hope to have you back again
soon.

On Wednesday April 30, Professor Marcus
Soares visited Kingston to present another great
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu workshop for our students and guests.
The seminar focused on attacks from the top positions but
as usual, Professor Soares took the time to answer any BJJ
questions that students could come up with. Following the
seminar Professor Soares tested and promoted our student Shawn
Hartwig to the rank of Blue Belt. Congratulations Shawn. You
deserve it!

A dozen martial artists and fitness enthusiasts
were able to witness first hand the benefits of Russian Kettlebell
training at a special workshop at our school. On Saturday,
April 12, Pietro
Puzzuoli, traveled to Kingston to share some
of his exercise expertise. The workshop was both physical
and informative and I am confident that those in attendance
will grow stronger because of it. Thanks Pietro. We hope to
have you back again in the near future.

Twenty students and instructors were able to
sharpen their striking and grappling skills under the tutelage
of World Champion Erik Paulson on Friday,
April 4, 2003. The seminar focused on striking and controlling
from the clinch position, Vale Tudo boxing skills and leg
lock attacks and defense. As expected, the seminar was quite
physical and everyone left the school sweaty and smiling.
Following the seminar, our own Rebecca Harvey tested for and
received her Level 1 Coaching certification from Sensei Paulson
while Sensei Mike Sweeney was promoted to Associate Instructor
in Sensei Paulson's CSW organization.

Another great seminar with Ajarn "Chai"
Sirisute took place on March 29-30, 2003. Guests
from as far away as Pennsylvania traveled to Kingston to learn
the details of Muay Thai from a true martial arts master.
