"Martial Arts Planet owner Mike Sweeney's pursuit for
excellence is evident not only in his training but also his
teaching. His extreme dedication to martial arts can be seen
through his continual desire to refine both his personal training
and his training methods. While Mike's positive leadership
has encouraged me to achieve new levels on the mat, it has
also influenced me to attain new levels as a person."
Adam Zugec - North American and Canadian Submission
Champion
"Mike Sweeney is one of those rare Coaches who
possesses the unique combination of personal skill, and teaching
ability. Mike has a very high level of performance skill in
all areas of fighting: stand up kickboxing, clinch, ground,
and weapons. In addition, Mike has a great way of communicating,
coaching, and helping others reach their own personal best
within the field of functional Martial Arts. I would highly
recommend his classes for anyone, of any skill level."

RESULTS
December 1, 2007 - Kids Kombat Fun Day
What a great day! A large number of our rising stars got together in front of their family and friends to challenge themselves and their developing martial arts skills. There were some impressive match ups. Not only were we able to witness some great technique but also some amazing heart. We're looking forward to seeing what our next event brings us. Keep up the great work!
Nov. 17, 2007 - Throwdown in O-town Muay Thai show
Huge congratulations to Rob MacArthur for taking the win in his debut Muay Thai fight. He stuck to the game plan and looked excellent, pulling off a unanimous decision. Even his Ram Muay (pre-fight dance) was on!
Chris Wellstood, Rob and Rebecca just before the fight.

Rob with his hand raised. Well done. Congratulations also to his opponent from Fit Plus in Halifax, Michael Kent, who was VERY tough.
Nov. 11, 2007 - Joslins Grappling Championship
Congratulations to Chris, Kyle, James, Matt, Michael and Alec who headed off to Joslins tournament on the 11th. Although no one medalled everyone fought well and walked away better because of the experience!
Nov. 3, 2007 - IFL Grand Prix
Our coach Wagnney Fabiano defeats John Gunderson via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:53 of round two. Way to go Wagnney!!!
June 16, 2007 - Another impressive win for
Wagnney!
From the IFL
website:
Wagnney Fabiano defeats Erik Owings via submission (armbar)
at 0:58 of round 1.
Owings tries to back Fabiano up with jabs to start off,
but Fabiano drops down and gets the takedown immediately.
Fabiano is setting up his attack from Owings guard, and moves
to mount looking for an armbar right away. Owings attempts
to roll out, but Fabiano rolls with him and extends the arm
in a picture perfect submission. Owings is forced just a
few moments into the bout. Another impressive performance
for Fabiano, who seems to get better every time he steps
foot in the IFL ring.

June 2, 2007 - GTA Grappling Championships
Congratulations to MAP student Rob
McArthur who took first place
in the Advanced Super-Heavyweight division at the June
2nd tournament. This win places Rob in the top spot in
the Grand
Prix standings.
We are all super proud of you Rob!

April 13, 2007 - Wagnney racks up 2nd IFL win!
From the IFL website:
Fabiano ended his second straight fight in the first round via a side choke, after dominating his opponent on the ground with his effortless jiu-jitsu style. Both Ian Loveland and Cam Ward have fallen prey to the disarming young Brazilian, and he has yet to face a true challenge in the IFL lightweight ranks.
That's what I like to do, Fabiano said of his grappling prowess after Fridays bout. I felt very comfortable. Now I have to train double what I did last time. It has to always be like that.
Fabiano may get his toughest test yet in the Dragons final match of the regular season, as they take on the undefeated Pitbulls. If American jiu-jitsu virtuoso Erik Owings is back in the lineup then, we may find out just what both men are made of in an all-out grappling war.

March 31, 2007 - Wrestlefest results
Congratulations to MAP students Rob
McArthur and Kyle
Norton who traveled to Toronto to compete in the
2nd Grappling Grand Prix qualifier. Rob walked away with
two Silver medals in the advanced division of his weight
class (225+). Kyle represented well winning several matches
before ultimately losing to the one who would go on to win
the division. Great job guys. We are very proud of you.
February 23, 2007 - Wagnney Fabiano wins IFL debut
Wagnney Fabiano defeats Ian Loveland via submission (side
choke) at 0:59 of round one.
Fabiano puts the pressure on
early, taking Loveland and easily passing his guard to move
to side mount. Loveland makes it back to his feet but is
unable to avoid the pressing attack of the jiu-jitsu black
belt Fabiano. Fabiano secures a very tight arm-triangle choke
from side position, and Loveland is forced to tap out. From
the team bench, the Dragons leap into the ring and embrace
their lightweight.
