"Martial Arts Planet owner Mike Sweeney's pursuit for
excellence is evident not only in his training but also his
teaching. His extreme dedication to martial arts can be seen
through his continual desire to refine both his personal training
and his training methods. While Mike's positive leadership
has encouraged me to achieve new levels on the mat, it has
also influenced me to attain new levels as a person." Adam Zugec - North American and Canadian Submission
Champion
"Mike Sweeney is one of those rare Coaches who
possesses the unique combination of personal skill, and teaching
ability. Mike has a very high level of performance skill in
all areas of fighting: stand up kickboxing, clinch, ground,
and weapons. In addition, Mike has a great way of communicating,
coaching, and helping others reach their own personal best
within the field of functional Martial Arts. I would highly
recommend his classes for anyone, of any skill level." Matt Thornton - SBG Founder and President

PROMOTIONS
2003
On December 5, 2003, at the Karma
Martial Arts Christmas party, Michael Sweeney was promoted
to the rank of Purple Belt
in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu by Nova Uniao Black Belt Wagnney Fabiano.
Several other Nova Uniao students received big promotions
on that evening and although we don't have all of their names,
we would like to offer our sincere congratulations to them.

Congratulations
Andrew Giles and Fred Benford
for passing your Level 1 Thai Test on Wednesday Nov. 26. You
both demonstrated excellent skill, spirit and conditioning
during the exam.

The promotion is now official!
On Saturday October 4, 2003, Kingston resident Donna
Morrin earned the coveted rank of Black Belt. Along
with her, Rebecca Sweeney moved even one step
higher on the ladder of martial arts success with her promotion
to the rank of Nidan, second degree Black Belt. I am confident
that both of these students will continue to be examples of
excellence for our junior and senior students alike.

We had another Level 1 Thai Test last night
(Thursday, June 26, 2003) only this time it was a surprise
to the participant. Fernando Garcia, who
will be moving away after this week, was put through the paces.
As expected, he passed with flying colours.
Great job Fernando. Make us proud by keeping up your training.

Congratulations
goes out to Steve Popazzi who passed his
Level 1 Thai Test on Wednesday May 29. You can now wear your
Thai Shorts with pride.

Congratulations to CBK student
Shawn Hartwig who received his BJJ
Blue Belt from Professor Soares during the April
2003 Jiu-Jitsu seminar in Kingston. Good work Shawn. You deserve
it!

Following the seminar with Sensei Erik
Paulson on April 4, 2003, our own Rebecca Harvey tested for
and received her Level 1 Coach certification.
Also, Sensei Mike Sweeney was promoted to Associate
Instructor in Sensei Paulson's CSW organization.
