"Martial Arts Planet owner Mike Sweeney's pursuit for excellence is evident not only in his training but also his teaching. His extreme dedication to martial arts can be seen through his continual desire to refine both his personal training and his training methods. While Mike's positive leadership has encouraged me to achieve new levels on the mat, it has also influenced me to attain new levels as a person." Adam Zugec - North American and Canadian Submission Champion "Mike Sweeney is one of those rare Coaches who possesses the unique combination of personal skill, and teaching ability. Mike has a very high level of performance skill in all areas of fighting: stand up kickboxing, clinch, ground, and weapons. In addition, Mike has a great way of communicating, coaching, and helping others reach their own personal best within the field of functional Martial Arts. I would highly recommend his classes for anyone, of any skill level." Matt Thornton - SBG Founder and President

Call us for details! "Each time I collect my attendance card for class, the picture on it reminds me of how far I have come! I began as a cardio student and like many others who have walked through the door at Martial Arts Planet, my goal was to lose weight, get fit and learn something useful. I soon found myself setting and striving for new goals. As a cardio student, I was intimidated but also motivated by Rebecca's ability. It wasn't long before I joined the MMA and Thai boxing classes. I realized that the intimidation I felt was my own lack of confidence. As soon as I got involved, any intimidation I felt just kind of disappeared. It has now been replaced by focused determination to never end up where I came from. One of the best decisions I have ever made was to join Martial Arts Planet. In doing this I am investing in my future by way of better health, confidence, motivation and friendship. Plus, the parties are a lot of fun too... I look forward to the day I earn my black belt... Thanks Mike and Rebecca, you've helped me improve my life." Krista Vandusen Baseball!

Rebecca Sweeney vs. Thricia Poovey This fight will be shown on TSN tonight (Saturday July 15)! KOTC Karnage, part IV. To quote KOTC promoter Ken Kupsch: "These girls were incredible." Time: 10:30 Mountain, 12:30 Eastern (technically Sunday morning) Swimming without water?
Imagine if you took your son or daughter to swimming lessons, only to find out that the teacher was showing the kids things that would absolutely NOT work. Even worse, what if you found out that rather than actually getting into the swimming pool or lake and practicing in the water, the kids only stood on the side of the pool and practiced their "strokes" in the air. Would you be happy with that method of instruction? What if they went to classes for years and years before you found this out? Read more here... Pic of the Week! One of Rebecca's fight photos made it on to the Grapplearts.com Pic of the Week page. Check it out. While there check out some of the free training articles. SBGi Seminar SuccessOn the May long weekend (May 20-21, 2006) twenty or so eager martial artists chose to invest time training rather than taking off for the cottage, when Matt Thornton visited Ontario for the first-ever Aliveness seminar hosted by the recently-formed Trenton MMA club. As expected, Matt shared only high-percentage skills and training methods making it a super positive experience for both the beginners and experienced athletes in the group.

We WELCOME students from other disciplines!"Before I started taking classes at Martial Arts Planet I was at a time in my life where I was starting to feel old and lifeless. Now, no matter how bad my day has gone, I feel good knowing I have class that night. By the time class is over I feel more full of energy than before I got there. You don't just learn in these classes, you have fun doing it. I talk about Martial Arts Planet every chance I get and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in receiving instruction.
